Now this is a post that I expected to have been up on The Piquey Eater months ago but I never came around to visiting them. So you can guess my excitement when I found out that they were exhibiting at the Good Food and Drink Festival with an assortment of their chocolates and baklava. This newly opened baklava and chocolate joint located in Scarborough attracted me because they do something that I have never seen before and that is a full baklava cake (pictured above). Now I haven’t tried it, but from my sample of their apricot baklava, it is luscious, nutty, flakey, and delightfully sweet. According to the owner, Julie, they’re the only ones who do it which explain why I have never seen it before.
If you understand how this dessert is made, then you’ll know that it has a lot of sugar in it. What I really like about the ones at Meli Baklava is that even though I know there is a lot of sugar in it (by the way, they only use honey, no corn syrupy badness), it doesn’t taste like it. So having a piece is quite delightful with some tea. I’ll surely be doing a full feature of Meli Baklava at their main shop in Scarborough soon, so stay tuned!
