The weather is getting pretty cold in Toronto and that means deliciousness to ensue in the kitchen. Once the weather cools down, I tend to go out much less (or at least try to) and do more in the kitchen.

Now that I spend significantly more time at home, I’ve had a chance to try some products that I’ve either bought or been sent and I thought it would be a good idea to share some of my favourites thus far.

***Note: As of publishing this post, their First Treatment Essence seems to have been pulled from their offering. They do have other products that perform very similarly from the same line however. ***

So MISSHA is actually quite a large makeup brand in Korea. Made famous with their BB cream which is basically a light tinted moisturizer that comes with SPF, MISSHA has been spreading the word about their products around the world now. They sent me some products from their Time Revolution line which is like many other makeup products help you retain to regain your youthful glow.

I’ve never really been a big user of fancy makeup products mostly because I am a lazy bum when it comes to skin care. But this year, I made a vow to not have any more patches of dry skin and commit to taking care of myself.

So I got their The First Treatment Essence which works like a toner and their Night Repair Ampoule which is similar to a serum. I got a 14 day trial pack and I have to say I am absolutely in love with this product.

One of the features that the First Treatment Essence boasts is that it balances the sebum production of your skin overnight and it actually works. Sebum for those of you who don’t know is basically the oil that your skin produces. Sebum has many components that are healthy and protect the skin, but too much can cause acne. I noticed my face in the morning was significantly less oily and had a nice matte look to it.

One thing I absolutely love is that both products absorb into my skin without a problem and without making it greasy.

After. Pfftt hahaha. Okay no, I’m shitting you. This is Lee Hyori, an entertainer from South Korea. She’s awfully purdy.

AFTER: A picture with me and the love of my life: Food! FYI, no foundation.

Now for the first week, I just used these products alone without any additional moisturizers to see if they also work as moisturizers as well. I have to report that I had no dry patches after using them.

A bottle of The First Treatment Essence or the Ampoule go for about $50 at MISSHA, but I believe they have deals throughout the year to help you get the most out of your money spent there.

If you remember back in the summer I did a relatively massive haul on kitchen equipment and we picked up a Breville Immersion Blender. This has become such a useful tool around the kitchen as it’s great as blending away bean paste, soup and basically anything else that would require a blender.

I highly recommend this lil sucker as it’s powerful and hasn’t had any hiccups yet through our use.

I said it before and I’ll say it again. Pumpkin is so overrated.

I prefer the orange stuff of sweet potatoes much better. They are packed with way more nutrients and they give off more sweetness when baked without the need of the excess spice for pumpkin.

It’s hard for me to just pick one recipe, but I’ll have to go with my dad’s sweet potato and raisin loaf. Beautiful colour, flavour and texture, this bread recipe is definitely a winner. Find the recipe here.
